Best to create a “Games” folder directly under your C: drive location, as a peer folder to the Program Files(x86) folder. Worst case, you can fully delete your Steam files and download again to become a Master file as source for modding.Ĥ.ěegin the 1.13 mod process by copy/pasting your entire JA2 folder from the Steam common folder, to a folder that is NOT under your Program Files folder structure. It’s important to consider that you now have your “master file” for JA2, so do NOT further mod or mess with these files in your Steam folder, as you may need to copy/paste this master file, if your modding attempts result in corrupted files or if you accidentally delete anything in your modding attempts. If you choose to play the unmodded vanilla game in Windows 10, you at least have that set also, at this point. Start the game in steam, wait a few seconds, then quit out of the game, and Steam now recognizes that you’ve played the game. Go to your default folder for JA2 in your files, at: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Jagged Alliance 2 Gold and at this location, then enter the “Data” folder, and locate the file named “Intro.slf” and right click over that file and “Rename” it to “Intro.dll”ģ. So, “Install” the game but do NOT try to run it yet.Ģ.Ĝhange file task. You need to first install the game in Steam and change a file in the vanilla version default build, for Windows 10, to run the game successfully one time to tag your Steam game as having run at least once on your PC. I will show where 3rd party actions are taking place in this process.ġ. Bear in mind, you will end up with 3rd party sites/files that I have nothing to do with, nor am I promoting them, but I would caution you on some Steam members who practically spam their files/solutions at you. I ran into problems with existing sites at existing Guides here in Steam, as you must cross over to alternate sites due to some prior download sites being dead links, but I will do my best to keep this simple as possible. Particularly if you assault Drassen at night, which will shorten the ranges and make autofire more effective. This is a current How-To walk through to mod your game with the unofficial 1.13 version of the game to the 2014 standard. I would suggest starting with a team which includes a skilled medic and at least one "sniper" character (That is, someone selected for a high marksmanship.) You might not get a rifle this way, but an SMG is pretty good too. If you spend all your cash on one character, you can't include them. They might not be great in combat, but will help your team get back to full health quickly. I mean, Fox and Spider are an inexpensive hires and very good medics. Lynx? I think that hiring one merc at the start is probably a mistake when you're starting out, because it means only one person shooting, and even if they're great, if any of you get hurt, you'll take longer to recover.Īnd that expensive merc means no other skills. I don't know about your experience, but being prone DOES give a bonus to attack and a bonus to defense which exceed crouching. I have tried laying prone for gunfights, but it only seems to make them blind and not hit anything, in stark contrast to enemy soldiers, who become untouchable elite snipers when prone. Seroster, my mercs walk around while crouching mostly. I'm playing 1.10, Gold edition, but I can't find that feature Afterburner talks about. I really can't see any reason to hire any other merc first, which probably shows I'm getting something wrong, as nobody seems to have him as a first choice. I chose Lynx because he's affordable, has good attributes and he carries a rifle. Who is that Dimitri guy? I dislike Ira because she's not that good as a doctor and Lynx can do the same things AND hit the broad side of a barn. Right now my team consists of my custom merc, Lynx and Ira. How do you make your mercenary a night ops specialist? Is it better to make them be a marskman or a support kind of guy? It seems I did the wrong thing, but then again I have only taken control of Drassen and the first SAM site so maybe it's not too late to restart it again. Well, I just restarted the game since I wasn't too happy with some of my initial decisions.
